It had been a week since his doctors appointment, and he could not stop thinking about what was said to him. He took it to heart and felt pretty ashamed that he had let himself go. Rolling out of bed, he got up and walked to the bathroom. Leaning over the sink, he ran some hot water. Cupping his hands under the faucet, he splashed some water on his face to himself up.
Drying his face off he looked at himself in the mirror, sucked his gut in, flexed, and let out a big exhale. He turned to the said, and then back front again. “Oof..” he thought, “maybe he was right. I do need to get on top of this…”
Walking back to his room, he got dressed to go to the gym. The only problem was, he didn’t have a gym membership.
Making his way to the kitchen to make some coffee he thought about what gym he wanted to join. He didn’t want to join the Planet, though they were rather convenient. And he didn’t want to some hardcore gym with a bunch of meatheads. What he wanted was a nice in between, like a YMCA, but something more in his price range.
Finishing his coffee and the eggs he had made, he packed his bag and headed for the gym. He landed on the Fitness 4 All that was about a mile away, and actually on his way too and from work.
As he pulled into the parking lot, he realized how packed it was. After all, it was a Saturday morning.
Finally after driving around for about 5 minutes, he found himself a spot. Getting out of the car, and walking to the front door he began to get nervous. His stomach sank, and the palms of his hands started to sweat.
Walking through the front door, he heard an all too energetic voice from a decently fit male greeting him.
“Hey! How’s it going!?” the front desk employee asked.
Putting his keys on the counter, he said, “I’d like to sign up for a gym membership..”
“Oh cool! I’d be happy to help you with that!” the employee exclaimed. “What are some of goals!?”
He stopped, looked up and remembered why he hated gym employees. Looking back at the employee he said, “Look…. Jon. I don’t mean to be rude, but let’s cut the shit. I’d really just like to expedite this process…”
In a state of shock, the gym employee handed him an application and waited for him to fill it out. “Let me know if you need any help.”
Taking the application, he sat down and filled it out.
After he finished, he walked over to the front desk and handed it in. Jon scanned the page to make sure that he filled it out correctly. Setting it down, he said, “One last thing before we let you through…. gotta take your picture…”
“Stand right there. Smile if you want to..”
He didn’t want to.
“Alright, you’re all set.” Jon said as he handed him the key fob. “Locker rooms are across the floor and to the left. Let us know if you need anything.”
